Rowan University is a public university located in Glassboro, which is a borough in Gloucester County, in the US state of New Jersey, with more than 19 000 people, living within its limits, as estimated during the 2000 census.
Rowan was established in 1923 as Glassboro Normal School, and adopted its current name in March, 1997, when it gained university status from the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education. It offers its students various education programs through a Graduate School and seven academic colleges: Business, Education, Communication, Fine & Performing Arts, Engineering, Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Professional & Continuing Education.
Rowan's athletic teams are known as the Rowan Owls and they compete in NCAA Division III, with 7 men's and 9 women's sports teams. Their distinctive colors are Rowan brown and Rowan gold.
